By means of comprehensive understanding of the engineering geological conditions and engineering geological problems of the reservoir and dam area belonging to the two research stages (namely the feasibility research stage and the outline design stage) of the Xiangshui reservoir, and the engineering geological conditions of the key positions, and contrasting between the main engineering geological problems, the author has thought that the scheme of reinforced concrete dam, right bank overflow way and left bank transmitting hole can goodly adapt to the topographical geological conditions of the dam area. And on the basis of evaluating of engineering geological conditions of different schemes of key positions, the author finally suggested that some districts under construction where engineering geological problems might be occurred, for example, the whole stability of the side slope of transmitting hole is bad, the upper stream side of the right bank plank slot and the right side of the overflow way exist the side slope with the same direction and higher position, the rocks round the tunnel are unsteady, the side slope of Youmachang valley is higher and whose lithological conditions is bad, and so on, should be further enhanced to prospect and evaluate.
