Unique regional compositions of the northern shaanxi loess plateau make the engineering geological properties of loess strata has great differences. It is difficult to avoid all kinds of loess engineering geological problems in the long term production practice. However, the lack of systematic research on the loess engineering geology,which brings great difficulties to the production and construction in northern shaanxi and cannot meet the rapid development in the implementation of the western development and "The Belt and Road" strategy in northern shaanxi. Therefore, they are the urgent needs of the rapid development of northern shaanxi that understanding the engineering geological characteristics of Loess Plateau in Northern Shaanxi province and detailed identification of engineering geological conditions in various regions of northern shaanxi and reasonable geological division of loess in Northern Shaanxi province.Firstly, according to the field investigation and data analysis, starting from the natural environment of the Loess Plateau in Northern Shaanxi and geological background, systematically summarizing the Northern Shaanxi area hydrology, climate, regional geological history, regional stratigraphic system and regional geological structure, and discussing the regional variation law of grain composition, density, porosity, compressibility and shear resistance of loess in Northern Shaanxi, and the characteristics of water physical properties such as collapse, disintegration, permeability and so on, and analyzing the engineering geological conditions of Northern Shaanxi such as terrain landform, lithology, hydrogeological features and undesirable geologic phenomena. Based in geomorphological features under the premise, make full use of the features of engineering geology regularity control, and combined with the regional variation law of grain composition, density, porosity, compressibility and shear resistance of loess in Northern Shaanxi, and the basic condition is mainly based on the formation lithology, hydrogeological features and the development of geological hazards.Finally, the Northern Shaanxi area is divided into 5 geomorphological regions and 14 sub regions of engineering geology.
