Nowadays bridge design uses both computer calculation and artifical calculation.Artifical calculation is a tough work, which takes a lot of time to achieve, and the accuracy of the calculation results can be make sure.Developing FEM-based bridge components calculation system can organically integrate the process of bridge design ,structure analysis and component checking calculation.Bridge components automatic calculation is very important for advanced bridge CAE, since it can greatly reduce bridge design time. This paper studies the techniques for developing FEM-based bridge components calculation system. It inludes developing object oriented user interaction interface by using visual programming software and integrating the user interface into the FEM software via the FEM software interface. The system will establish design database, specifications database and loads database, which allow the programs automatically query and find the parameters which need in the component calculation,it can efficiently simplify the designer operations. Some of the database can be modified by the administrator. Then the designer is able to control the calculation and check the results via the friendly user interface. By employing user-programming tools, Access database, Visual C++ and Visual Fortran, a reinforced concrete bridge components calculation system is implemented for FEM software Ansys. It was designed based on the Specifications for Design of Reinforced Concrete and Prestressed Concrete Highway Bridges and Culverts and the Code for Design on Reinforced and Prestressed Concrete Structure of Railway Bridge and Culvert. It proved that the technique of developing FEM-based bridge components calculation system works. The system is accurate and efficient for bridge component calculation, which was usually a tough work for engineers.
