Nowadays, Patch Clamp Technique has already become a general method in the field of modern electrophysiological research. With the application and popularization of Patch Clamp Technique, the full-auto patch clamp system is called into being. As the data transmission and control center in the patch clamp system, the existing data acquisition system with the PCI interface is outdated. A new data acquisition system is needed imminently. In order to meet the development of automation in patch clamp system, we have developed a new data acquisition system—UDA-I (USB Data Acquisition, I) with CPLD (Complex Programmable Logic Device) and USB1.1 (Universal Serial Bus 1.1) technology. To satisfy the requirement of low noise in patch-clamp experiments, a quite few of isolation technologies were used. In this project, the hardware design of UDA-I which contains circuit design and firmware design and HDL (Hardware Describe Language) design is described in detail, furthermore the isolation technology, PCB EMC design and programming approach used in this project are discussed. Finally, the test result of applying the UDA-I to patch-clamp system is given to verify the system's feasibility. It has been experimentally proved that UDA-I can meet the demand of high-speed data transmission in patch-clamp system with a total data transmission speed of 400 kB/s and noise level ranging between ±10 mV.
