This paper mainly discussed the design of overland flow velocity detecting instrument based on FPGA. Firstly, the paper discussed that the velocity of overland flow is the most important factor of studying the overland erosion power and mechanism. The salt solution based tracking method has a great deal of advantages in numerous tracking methods. And the scheme based on FPGA has successfully overcome some problems existed in present instrument of flow velocity detecting. Secondly, this paper designed the sensors for detecting overland flow velocity, then a parallel multi-channel fast-data-acquisition system has been designed based on FPGA in detail. The design has been fully implemented by the VHDL and schematic diagram. The paper provides the view RTL schematics and waveform after being synthesized and simulated Post-Place & Route VHDL Model, and its circuits as well. The system satisfied the requirements of logical and timing to the overland flow velocity detecting instrument. The functions of MCU include data-reading, displaying, average-velocity-calculating and communication with PC. The design includes two modes of power supply, AC power and storage battery, to operate in the outdoor field conveniently. The data management part adopts Delphi and Access 2000. The system conforms to the trend of designing intelligent instrument and measuring appliance on a SoC.
