Through analyzing of several types of generator neutral grounding, introduces theconcept and knows all advantage and disadvantage. Analysis two main groundingways aims at large and medium generators, presenting low resistance groundingsample of middle power plant of offshore oil power system, and doing calculationdeduction about current protection of grounding fault. It provides useful reference andcomparison for all engineers who work for the offshore oil field.Because of both transient voltages and grounding fault currents are based ongrounding way of generators, which affects and determines the generator protectionform, the choice of grounding way is quite complex in both theory and practice.For the selection of onshore large and middle generator neutral grounding, there aretwo grounding ways: Peterson coil and high resistance. The offshore oil and gasplatform begins to use generator grounding and have adopted low resistancegrounding successfully, since offshore oil and gas field is bigger and bigger. Byanalysis and comparison, the neutral grounding is suitable for large and mediumsteam turbine driven generator and used popularly in onshore power plant. Getting aclear answer to choose a generator grounding form, which is suitable for offshore oilplatform, still needs more research and practice.
