With the development of high-buildings and skyscrapers, pit excavations areused increasingly in congested cities to provide underground space. On the basis offormer achievements, this paper deals systemically with the effect of existent buildingand load in engineering on retaining structure's earth pressure and displacement, andget the fruits as following:First, cantilever pile retaining structure is studied in this paper. When the distancebetween surcharge and pit changes within the depth of pit, with action of the rigidload, the displacement on the top end and moment of the pile is 1.3 times to that of thesoften load. When the surcharge is close to the pit, the displacement on the top endand earth pressure in passive zone of the pile will reduce with the increasing of theheight of surcharge wall. With the changes of the surcharge width, there are somedifferences of the pile's displacement with action of the rigid load and the soften load.Secondly, pile with bracing retaining sturcture is studied. When the distancebetween surcharge and pit increases from 0.3 to one times of the depth of pit, themaximal displacement of the pile will reduce to the half of the original. With action ofthe soften load, the maximal moment of the pile takes place when the load width isequal to the depth of pit, and the maximal moment has no distinct changes with theincreasing of the load width. With action of the rigid load, the maximal momentincreases with the increasing of the load width. When the load width is less than thedepth of pit, with action of the rigid load, the maximal displacement and earthpressure in passive zone of the pile is smaller than that of the soften load;otherwise, with action of the softer load, these items are more larger than that of the rigid load.Regardless the softer load or rigid load, the earth pressure in active zone of the pileincreases with the increasing of the load width.
