The electric energy consumer's request for the reliability and continuity of electric energy isbecoming higher and higher. But the failure of the power system cannot be avoided. We need aneffective and fast fault diagnosis system for detecting and eliminating the fault rapidly andinsuring the electric power system against the failure. The most important work is to find a fastand exact fault section diagnosis approach. The study of the fault diagnosis for transmission system using Petri nets is restricted becauseof a good many components and complicated connection of the power transmission system. Onthe basis of sufficient mastery to domestic and foreign status of fault section diagnosis, a newapproach of fault section diagnosis for power transmission system which establish Petri nets basedon transmission line, busbar, transformer is proposed. The approach can find the circuit breakerswhich refuse to act or act falsely. According to the signals of the tripping circuit breakers andrelays from the SCADA system, find out the fault section or fault component using the signals andcolored Petri nets model. If the fault section includes more than one components, we can find outthe fault component by establishing each component's own Petri net in the fault section and the"component—protection—circuit breakers" database. The amelioration of the approach is tofinding out the circuit breakers which refuse to act or act falsely. The approach has overcome the false estimation because of the extended failure of the powersystem. It is fast, effective and banausic for the power transmission system.
