In the parts of diesel engine, the engine block as a cabinet part of casting composes the framework of diesel engine, supports and fixes all the moving components and accessories, meanwhile makes them keep the fit location in operation. Its reliability has an important effect on the performance of the whole diesel engine. During the course of design, in order to improve and optimize design project and achieve satisfied design effect, we must analyze and compute it in depth and have a relatively accurate estimate.The strength and stiffness of engine block are the difficult problem of study in the parts of diesel engine all along. Because of its large size and complicated force conditions, we have some difficulty in the computation model's establishment. Along with the development of software and hardware, the FEA (finite element analysis) of engine block becomes an important means of assistant design.The FEM (finite element method) is a common numerical analysis method, and it is the most reliable and effective method of studying the stress problem of complex construction. Choosing the engine block of 4D32 diesel engine as the study object, this thesis computes and analyses the stress field and displacement field of the engine block subassembly. The computation conditions are the pretension condition and the burst condition.The process of boundary condition is very important in the FEA, which straight determines the solving precision. This thesis introduces pretension element to simulate the pretension force of each connecting bolt and sets up a lot of contact elements in the match surface of parts, so obtains more reasonable results. Eventually, we find the stress variable rule of the dangerous position and the deformation data of corresponding position using the specific post processing of FEA software. The result of strength checking indicates that all the engine block subassembly are secure.In the last, this thesis sums up some exist problems, which provides important reference for the feasibility of engine block's structure design and improvement project.
