Industrial production cries for secure controllers. The design of advanced controllers has largely preoccupied the researchers and engineers' efforts. Presently, the research of engineering domain mainly focuses on model identification, design of controller and robustness of control systems. Little has been done to the performance assessment of the running controllers. In fact, many running controllers cannot achieve the design index. In the course of industrial or power plant production, routine operating data in the SIS server from DCS have increasingly caused the technicians' attention. That how to make use of them and educe mature methods of performance assessment is the main job of this paper that based on time series analysis and minimum variance control proposed by Harris.We have discussed the single loop control system, cascade control system and multivariate control system in thermal process and educe the performance assessment methods which can be conveniently used in actual projects. We have also discussed the application of these methods together with the data mining in SIS of power plant.
