With the advance of industrial automation, it is a concerned problem for people that how to obtain the performance information of the controllers from the operating data to assess performance of control loops.This paper is based on the minimum variance control methodology, taking the power plant superheat steam temperature cascade control system as research object, derive the calculation method of cascade control system minimum variance performance assessment index; based on the minimum variance, for single loop control system with PID controller, achievable PID control system performance assessment index is introduced. It is also compared with the minimum variance performance assessment index.
