Cecil Balmond has been working with the international firm of consultingengineers Ove Arup and Partners for the past thirty year. He has collaboratedwith some of the world's most influential architects as James Stirling, Remkoolhaas, Daniel Liberskind, etc on a variety of prestigious and award-winningarchitectural projects. His works continuously refreshes our understanding ofstructures and promotes engineering as a totally creative activity. In his new book 'Informal' , Balmond elaborates on his designcollaboration with different architects and introduces the idea 'informal' as hisdesign method and his vision of structures and their forms. Balmond takes'informal' as an approach to the design of a form that is non-linear. He usesthree characteristics to describe 'informal'.As my research goes further, I find it would be more efficient andobjective if we escape Balmond's way of theorization and stick to differentsituations produced by different projects and observe as an outsider.Consequently, this paper is base on projects analyzing, introducesBalmond's unique contribution to the field of structural engineering, explainsthe different significance of 'informal' as a concept in Balmond's differentkinds of works and compares 'informal' to several correlative concepts.
