Standard CAD drawings for short/medium span bridge, achievement of theResearch on Applicable Bridge Structure of Short/Medium Span for Western Area, are valuable in bridge design activities. Meanwhile, bridge design institutesaccumulate a mass of drafts of their own during daily work. In this situationmentioned, coupled with the low level of design technique in western area, efficientdrawing utilization requires more effective management by the adoption ofinformation technology.Recent research on drawing management system mainly focuses on drawingcollection and storage from administrator perspective, whereas effective drawingsearch, access and reuse from designer perspective are of lack. Based on extensivesurvey, symposium discussion and design practice, this paper discusses the drawingcharacter and design process for short/ medium span bridge. And the standard CADdrawing reuse mechanisms both in bridge design domain and software design domainare established. In this paper, a new network-based management pattern for bridge designdrawings is provided, embracing the aspects of drawing data in collection, retrieval, organization, access and statistic. With the application of object-oriented analysis anddesign method, Asp.NET, Ado.NET, database technology, data encryption anddecryption algorithm, etc., an applicable computer application system for drawingsmanagement is developed. Also, some key technologies for the system design andimplementation, such as web-based system architecture, optimization of databaseaccess, authentication and conversion of drawing format, on-line drawing browse, arewell presented. The probation of this system in practice proves its feasibility, and this researchputs forward an information solution for drawing management and utilization, and anew idea for applying information technology to bridge engineering widely.
