The exhausting noise of engine is one main source of vehicle noise, while using exhaust muffler is the most effective approach to decrease the exhausting noise of engine. Most of domestic muffler design is "imitating design" or just according to designers' experience. Not only the method of which is out of date, but also the cost is high, and the design cycle is long.As far as domestic muffler research goes, by the combined way of using the "ANSYS" and the "SYSNOISE" ("ANSYS" and "SYSNOISE" are two kinds of software), this paper analyzes the muffler numerically, and discusses key techniques such as the building of Finite Element Model, the FE mesh demarcation, and the post-processing data analysis, etc. Furthermore, it analyzes the effect of structural parameter on muffler capability thoroughly.Given the condition as the project of decreasing some kind of mini truck's noise, using the "Acoustic-Simulation" and the "Orthogonal-Experiment" together, this paper analyzes muffler's acoustical properties, so as to know the influence of structural parameters on muffler's performance, and then give the optimum design of key structural, and make a suggestion for the improvement of exhaust muffler at last.By comparing the transmission loss of the muffler 's test with that of numerical analysis, this paper probes into the causation of their difference, and clarifies the importance of its manufacturing technique. Giving an optimum design of the key structure of muffler and predicting its performance by the combined way of using the "Acoustic-Simulation" and the "Orthogonal-Experiment", which will be significant to be applied in practice.
