With the development of industrial technology, PID controller, which appeared in 1930s, was accepted for its better control performance. For the simple structure and strong robustness, PID controllers and transformative PID controller have been widely used in industrial control systems. The controller capability directly influences the qualities of producing process and products. Therefore, parameter tuning of controllers is the most important step during system design. With the development of computer technology and artificial intelligence in automatic control field, self-tuning PID controllers began to be used in recent years.Pattern recognition based self-tuning PID is one of the best self-tuning methods. But domestic research on this domain still stays on theory study or computer simulation. In this thesis, pattern recognition based self-tuning PID algorithms is studied for practical application, the main works of this thesis are as follows:The structure, evaluation and principle of the pattern recognition based self-tuning PID controller is introduced. The pre-tuning and self-tuning mode is also analyzed.The tuning mode and tuning rule of the pattern recognition based PID self-tuning algorithm is researched, and some approaches are adopted to improve the tuning performance.A series of control experiments based on DCS including temperature control and level control are taken to validate the function of the improved algorithm.The works of this thesis are summarized and some prospects are made in the end.
