China is a country with 5,000 years of ancient civilization, with a rich history of traditional culture. Contemporary China is in a period of rapid development, to accelerate the process of urbanization has brought about tremendous changes in the appearance of the city,Behind the development is the inadequate awareness of the value of traditional cities. One-sided pursuit of short-term benefits,due to the disappear of traditional neighborhoods.Traditional neighborhoods is a very important part of urban development chain in the spiritual, cultural, physical dimensions,forgetting the tradition will lead to lose the future.Traditional neighbourhood is a non-renewable resource, its protection is imperative, "urban renewal" is the concept in the international community to recognize the importance of cities after the historical value. Today's society, more attention and advocacy of human cultural diversity and uniqueness. In urban design, how to update the traditional neighborhoods reasonably,how to continues the region characteristic,how to rehabilitation neighbourhood vitality become not only the pressing issue in urban renewal and development process, but also the purpose of this study. This article is based on the background, through the value of traditional neighborhoods depth analysis, and summarizing the problem in traditional neighbourhood renewal, proposes the viewpoint of taking the protection as a master line, taking the development as a goal,in order to find the protection and development of traditional neighborhoods vitality feasible methods.
