Socializing, beside other activities, is a fundamental need in people’s life and development. Thus it is an important issue and requires a special attention in the process of urban development. Socializing is the activities that take place in complete public spaces. The formation and renovation of spaces for public activities is one of the main task of urban planners and designers. In modern cities, along with the popularization and diversification of urban life as well as the increase of recreational activities, urban public spaces are being taken more and more seriously. The percentage of urban spaces on overall urban land use are increasing. Base on a number of statistics, modern urban public spaces occupy roughly 50% of cities’land use. It shows that the impact of public spaces to urban environment and scape is significant.Nowadays, thanks to the effort of the government and people the city of Da Nang is being planned more strategically and constantly expanding. A series of new neighborhoods are taking shape such as:Tay Bac (in Lien Chieu district), Dong Nam (Ngu Hanh Son district), ecological neighborhood Hoa Xuan and so on. The housing issue for people in need is basically solved. In addition, the existing city center is also revitalized:streets are widened, slums are demolished. Public spaces are also renovated to better suite people’s need such as:the public space along west side bank of Han river, Mother Nhu’s monument complex, September 2nd square. However, there are a high possibility for shortage of urban spaces in the new urban expansion. Most of the designed public spaces are still on drawings only. What’s more, the built ones do not achieve functional, aesthetic and environmental requirements. These places are facing the risk of changing the land use purpose. New open spaces only need the demand for urban traffic circulation. They are not rhythmic, repetitive and boring. They do not represent characteristics and specialities of Central Vietnam.More than ever, the issue of organizing the open spaces-public spaces, especially those in new neighborhoods of Da Nang city is a very critical issue and needs to be seriously studied.Base on the purposes being laid out, this thesis paper focuses on studying the following areas:-First, study the precedents on organizing open spaces in cities around the world and in Vietnam, analyze and evaluate the existing organization of public spaces in city’s neighborhoods, point out the importance of organizing urban public spaces.-Secondly, identify and analyze the role of urban open spaces in modern cities. Combine theories and experiments to create scientific evident as premises to form a direction in organizing public spaces-open spaces in new neighborhood of Da Nang.-Thirdly, from scientific base created, study to propose principles and solutions for organizing open spaces in new neighborhoods of Da Nang. This thesis has 03 chapters:-Chapter 01:General study on organization of open spaces in cities around the world and Vietnam.-Chapter 02:Scientific evident of organizing urban spaces.-Chapter 03:Proposal on principles and solution for organizing open spaces in the new neighborhoods of Da Nang city.
