Study On Materials And Procedures For Rapid Repair Of Portland Cement Concrete Pavements

The cement concrete pavement is one of two main types of highway pavements in our country. By the end of 2005, there are 532,697-kilometer highways with paved surface, of which 57.56% or 306,622-kilometer roadways are Portland cement concrete pavements. It should be pointed out that a number of the country's Portland cement concrete pavements have been used for a long time and distressed by the overloaded transportation as a result of intensively competitive transportation markets. All those cement concrete pavements are in urgent condition waiting for maintenance and/or rehabilitation. As a result of the national economy's rapid development and the sharp growth of traffic volume, the society expects highway departments to repair the pavements without long-time traffic closure. For deeply research on the fast patching material and the construction process, it would promote the advancement of maintaining theory of the concrete pavements as well as the practice application of new materials. From the widespread application prospect, it will significantly benefit the economy of the society.The PCC pavement fast repairer has the advantages of high strength in early period, stable growth in later period, little expansion and wear, good joining between old and new concrete, similarity of colors, uncomplicated construction technique and lower cost. It obtained high praise by users since 2002 because they use it as a fast test in the provincial highway. After using the cement concrete pavement, the maintaining of concrete in later period can be cancelled. Its use will not influence the normal traffic condition and has good social and economic benefits. Moreover, this kind repairer's suitable temperature range is wide, from 0°C to 35° C, and can be used in the whole year. The cement concrete pavement fast repairer has a long time to be used in construction and is easy to operate, so it can be widely used in road construction.This thesis reports the present development situation of Portland cement concrete pavements in Sichuan Province. It focuses on the investigation of pavement conditions in the northern section of Dajian Road, the Chengdu-Longquanyi section of Chengdu-Chongqing Freeway, and Chengdu-Wenjiang-Qionglai Highway. Based the analyses of major distress types, primary issues existing in the development ofSichuan pavements are discussed. This thesis conducted does research on the TF series cement concrete, especially mix design process, other technical parameters, construction technique and cost-effectiveness of TF series cement.
