With the increasing of the architectural structures serving time, the capability and the function of the structures will degenerate and debase affected by the factors of self-aging ceaselessly, changing of the using condition and eroding of the surroundings. But in China, more than the 70% structures have served for 20-30 years (generally speaking, structures serving time limit is 50 years), most of them exist hidden troubles of secure. So it is necessary and exigent to evaluate the reliability of these structures by testing, assessing the quality and rebuilding or reinforcing in due course. But the current theories of the reliability of evaluating the existing structures have not been mature yet, they still need to be studied further and form a scientific integrated evaluating system.The uncertain factors that influence the reliability of existing structures are studied in this paper in detail. In this paper, a sort of methods that evaluate the reliability of existing structures is presented. It is genetic algorithm.At last, by comparing the calculative results to the ones of other methods, engineering examples are given to illustrate the method proposed in this paper is practicable, quite simple and efficient. And there is a lot of work to be done to perfect the method and extend the range of its application further.
