In this paper, the principles, basic structure and control system of variable frequency air conditioner are introduced. On this basis, an outdoor controller is designed for home hanging variable frequency air conditioner control system. In hardware, according to the functions, the controller is divided into such modules as power, control, sampling, drive and communication. By applying special purpose DSP chip for motor control and intelligent power module (IPM), the structure of controller is simplified, and its reliability is enhanced. In software aspect, it is divided into two relatively independent parts, namely basic software and system software, and they are linked by global variables. By the methods of top-to-bottom and modularization, the control software is explicit and easy to maintain.In order to check the performance of this controller, a simulation test platform is designed, with which, the validity of the software can be easily examined. Finally, by joint test, hardware faults are detected and weeded out, the correctness of control rule and the reliability of control system are validated.As air conditioned room is nonlinear and has dominant time-delay, the feasibility of using fuzzy logic controller in variable frequency air conditioner is discussed based on the using of conventional PI controller, both the PI controller and the fuzzy logic controller are studied by simulation.
