In this paper, two main parts about coatings were reviewed, i.e. the improvement of impact resistance of acrylic clear powder coatings and the study of hydrophilic coatings.First, three different measures were reviewed for settling the problem of inferior impact resistance of GMA based acrylic clear power coating used on automobiles. It was useful to graft stearic acid to increase branching degree of the film, add nano-TiO2 and add new-style nano-assistant named polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane(POSS) to improve impact resistance of the film. But other properties of the film were affected differently. The effects of three methods on film properties were discussed in detail; moreover, the mechanism of the effects was mentioned too. Then Core-shell type waterborne polystyrene-polyacrylate micro spheres in which acrylic polymer acts as the shell and polystyrene acts as the core were synthesized via two stages emulsion polymerization. Acrylic acid was used as the functional monomer, of which the carboxyl was concentrated at the surface of the film, to form hydrophilic coating.First, the morphology of acrylic polymer acts as the shell and polystyrene acts as the core was calculated according to math methods about alterant value of interface free energy, in addition, this morphology which was the micro spheres exist stably was characterized by Dynamic Laser Scattering (DLS) and Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM).
