Information security technique is an important safeguard for power system to execute steadily in the development of future power system. We have to design an appropriate cryptogrammic mechanism. It is not only suited to actual conditions that computing resource and memory resource of electric substation equipment such as IED and PMU must be highly restricted and real-time, but also satisfy efficiently such requirement as electric substation communicational synchronism, availability and authenticationality, furthermore it can implement the combination with IEC61850 specification. Java is also becoming more and more widely used in embedded real-time system. Java has lots of superior characteristics, such as simplicity, object-oriented, distributivity, expressionable, reliability, secure, platform-careless, transportable, high quality, multi-thread and dynamic, all that will result in a quite applied potential on secure communication of future power system. However, if we use JVM which was implemented by common software, the speed will be low. JOP(Java Optimized Processor) is a microprocessor core that can execute Java bytecode program. This article has discussed the communicational needs of electric substation cipher management and transformation protocol under the system that wide area security defence-oriented. Then, we have implemented JOP in cheap FPGA. One side, it employs Java technique to advantage in electric substation secure communication application which is accord with IEC61850 specification, and increases the efficiency of Java. The other side, the unused resource in FPGA can be utilized for much more application. This article has designed the cryptogrammic computing module with JOP and analyzed in detail on some characteristics of JOP under the system that wide area security defence-oriented, such as application and security of electric substation cipher management, transformation protocol and dependable authentication. In addition, we have discussed originally the applied feasibility and advantages of Java technique in future electric substation IED secure communication and express some personal opinions about further application of JOP and Java technique in power system.
