Preliminary Research On The Old Campus Outdoor Environment Of The Nanjing Historical Famous Universities

Based on theories of landscape architecture, psychology, environmental behavior together with sociology, this paper studies the environment of the historical famous campuses in Nanjing city, through investigating on the site, the interaction between university students' needs and the campus environment. And this paper also puts forward suggestions on planning and construction of old campus environment .and strategies for campus construction in China.The paper studies first environmental behavior and environment design theories, and then classifies the environment of the old campus environment as transportation space, buffer space, sports space, leisure space and memorial space. The case studies are conducted based on on-site investigation and analysis so as to deal with the characteristics of the environment. Finally the paper summarized in the following: 1, transportation space should have rational layout of roads, choose more appropriate materials for walk and bicycles. The road should have names and signs with trees: 2, buffer space should have appropriate scale with signs and rest furniture; 3, sports space should have satisfaction in enclosure and textile; 4, leisure space should be diverse with free, different, individual features and confortability; 5, memorial space should be complex with emphasis on function and rich designs.
