Reverse engineering is a new technology in the field of modern manufacture technologies form the later 1980s . First, we get the Three-D coordinates of the points on a surface. Then, we rebuild the surface from the points cloud by a CAD/CAM software. This technology has developed to a independent field.We have done some research on points-cloud collection, data-transform and surface-rebuild. In the research of points-cloud collection, we developed three programs for point-scanning, line-scanning and plane-scanning. In order to be read by a CAD/CAM software, the data created by coordinate measuring machine are transformed to a data with IGES format. We develop a translator to do this. Then we using the tooth, Pro/SCANTOOLS, of Pro/E to rebuild the surface basing on the points-cloud . And we make the surface smooth by Pro/SCANTOOLS. In the end, we use the achievement to do some other research.We can use our achievement to rebuild some simple or complicated planes. But there are some questions such as efficiency and precision for the machine itself. We will do more research for it.
