Due to increasing loads of power systems,demand on reactive power was also increasing. Because transmission of reactive power in power systems network can lead to net work loss and step-down voltage,transmission of a great deal of reactive power necessarily resulted in reduction of using efficiency of power energy and severely effected voltage quality. It became necessary means that reactive power compensation devices were installed in proper position of power network.The investigation is a new VAR compensator base on current compensation in this paper. Analyses the detection method of generalized reactive currents(reactive current,harmonic current),it considers the influences of distorted power factor in harmonic current,and the influences of displaced power factor in reactive current.It can improve the precision of detection. It introduces compensation theory and main circuit,and that the mainly study are switches of capacitor and criterions of the device.In one power frequency cycle, the time was averagely division to some intervals.In every intervals, the capacitor was switched.The reactive and harmonic current were compensated by the capacitor current which it obtained through average value in one intervals cycle base on theorem of equivalent impulse. In one power frequency cycle switching capacitor in high frequency,it can insure that the capacitor voltage difference is small,at the same time it can greatly reduce surge current.
