This paper briefly reviews the state-of-the-art of steel structure residence and structural vibration control. Based on the study of seismic performance of the traditional steel structure residence and the properties of passive control technology, a new type of steel structure residence with added energy-dissipatied devices is proposed. The advantages of the new system are discricribed in detial according to the characteristics of structures.The dynamic characteristics of a hign-level steel structure residence is analyzed by using finite element program ETABS. And the deformation of the structure under earthquake load and wind load is given.Besides, the models of a hign-level steel structure residence with/without dampers are analyzed. The passive control technology of friction damper and viscous damper is applied respectively in this model. The responses and vibration reductional effecs of different models are compared with the original structure. Studies show that this new type of steel structure residence with added energy-dissipatied devices possesses superior seismic persormance.In the end, the design flow prosess of this new type of steel structure residence with added energy-dissipatied dampers is proposed. In order to verify the validity of it, a design exampel is also provided.
