Wind tunnel strain-gauge balance is the most popular measuring device in the aerodynamic force-measuring test in the wind tunnels, and the performance of the balance would effects the tests results on accuracy. The strain-gauge balance must be calibrated before it's using in the wind tunnel tests, and the precision and accuracy of the balance will be affected by the characters of the calibration system. To develop a good strain-gauge balance calibration system was been regarded as one of the most important works for most aerodynamic research institute. This paper presents the development and preliminary application works of an automatic strain gauge balance static calibration system in ECS for 1m Hypersonic Wind Tunnel of CARDC.Balance calibration system is a complicated automatic device, and involved with many subject such as machine, electric, measuring technique, control, and mechanics. The system most be capable to fit the demands of balance calibration, and most be accuracy and less error. Not only the capability of the system be cared, but also the expenses of the manufacture most be considered. Thus, to give a reasonable development scheme was a most important work. According to the study work of this paper, an automatic six-component strain gauge balance calibration system development scheme was put forwards: The system calibrates the balances in the ECS, and translates the loads to the BCS of the balances with measuring the balance's position changes during the calibration.The automatic six-component calibration-loads loading system is one of the most important system of a balance calibration system, and how to load the six component loads on a balance is a difficult problem to deal with. In this paper, a 9-point loading method been used in the new balance calibration system to load six component loads on a balance. At same time, the automatic loads method and the design of loading device are also important. In the new balance calibration system, the calibration loads was loaded with an automatic device witch drived by a electric-motor, and the calibration loads be measured with high precise force measuring sensors. The force transmission device been carefully designed to avoid the interference of friction.The position measuring system was another important system in the new balance calibration system. To work out the calibration loads in the BCS of balance with the results of balance position measuring is the key technique to improve the veracity of the balance calibration results.
