In this paper, measurement principles are discussed in detail for projectile dimension measurement, based on the analysis and classification for the structural dimensions of special projectiles. According to the factory practice, a measuring equipment is setup to measure those dimensions. Two high precision laser displacement sensors and motion controller are introduced to construct this automatic digital measurement system for inspection and evaluation of the key dimensions. Actual application shows this system can effectively improve projectile dimension measurement precision and give the error distribution. Testing result shows the system measurement error less than 10 microns for internal/external diameters and 100 microns for the external length. Hence the measurement system can guide the machining processes and helps to control product quality.The main research contents include:1. Measurement principles are discussed in detail for projectile dimension measurement, along with error analysis. This forms the basis of future improvements.2. Based on detailed analysis of the system, Laser displacement sensors are combined with motion controller to construct the automatic digital measurement system for geometrical dimensions of projectiles.3. Controlling software is developed for the measurement system. It has been proved by experiments to be stable, reliable and users-friendly, and consequently meets the requirements of the projectile dimension measurement.4.A series of experiments are conducted with result analysis, which shows that accuracy of the system is better than demanded. |
