The essay research the power consumption simulation of the vehicle hydraulic power steering gear on the engine test bed. Also the systematic designing method is concerned. A simple PLC(Programmable Logic controller) controlled hydraulic loading unit is built to realize the simulation of power consumption of vehicle hydraulic power steering gear.The application of PLC in the field of automatic control is described such as the high frequency pulses acquisition, analog input, open loop control and PID control etc. As a instance, a slave control system is designed on the basis of SIEMENS'S SIMTIC S7-200 CPU226 an, EM235 and TD200.The control system adopts the popular strategy by integration of master computer and slave computer, between which serial communication is built. The main monitoring interface is also built by dint of Microsoft VC++ language to realize the remote control of loading unit.The commissioning and the test show that all the requirements are reached. This load unit also played an important role in the solution of crankshaft break accident.
