As a new type of EMC test site, reverberation chamber has been developed very fast in recent years and got more and more attention because its outstanding advantages over traditional test sites in the following terms: costs, measurement time and effectiveness in simulating complex EM field. The EM field in the reverberation chamber must be statistically uniform and statistically isotropic. There are many methods to generate this kind of EM field, while the mechanical stirring method is most often used. The design of stirrers is the most difficult point in chamber design. The configuration, size and quantity of the stirrers are the important factors will influence the performance of the reverberation chamber. Proper stir design can improve the uniformity of EM field and reduce the lowest usable frequency. In this paper, the principle and some characters of reverberation chamber are first detailed described. Then a chamber model and several different types of stirrers are constructed using the FEKO software. The author discusses the uniformity in the chamber, compares several different designs and different quantities of stirrers by analyzing the magnitude of the simulated electric field strength distribution in the chamber, which makes the effect of stirrers easier to understand than before.
