Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) is a new structural repair material in recent year. Because of its resistance to electrochemical erosion, 1ow manpower demand for application and minimal changes in geometrical dimensions of the member, it is used more and more wildly in field of civil engineering. This paper carries an experimental study on the pressed performance of the brick masonry square columns strengthened with Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastic (GFRP) sheet. The paper mainly includes two parts:Twenty-seven(nine groups) brick masonry square columns transversely binding reinforced by GFRP sheet and nine(three groups) brick masonry rectangle columns without reinforcement are tested for axial compression strengthening. Test variables include manners of GFRP, GFRP strengthening ratio and compressive strength of brick masonry columns without reinforcement. The experiment results indicate that GFRP sheet can enhance ultimate strength, peak value and ductility of brick masonry columns. The main factors such as brick masonry columns without reinforcement compressive strength,manners of GFRP and GFRP strengthening ratio have a direct influence to the result. The compressive stress-stain in relationship of masonry column confined by GFRP sheet is proposed. Based on the experimental results and theories of brick masonry reinforced transverse steel, a calculated method of compressive strength and peak value of brick masonry columns reinforced with GFRP is presented. The experimental results and those of analytical results are consilient.Nine (three groups) brick masonry square columns horizontal spaceing wrapped by GFRP sheet and three(one groups) brick masonry square columns without reinforcement are tested for axial compression strengthening. Based on results of the experimental and reference articles, test variables include manners of GFRP, GFRP strengthening ratio and compressive strength of brick masonry columns without reinforcement.
