Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) is a new material used to reinforce structures. With predominant mechanic performance it is used more and more wildly in field of civil engineering. This paper carries out an experimental study on the sheer performance of the brick masonry walls strengthened with Aramid Fiber Reinforced Polymer (AFRP). The influences of the main factors on strengthening effect are analyzed. This paper includes two parts:1, Based on the test of twenty-nine reinforced standardized samples strengthened by AFRP, the effectiveness of method of using AFRP to strengthen the brick masonry walls for improving their sheer performance in the state of pure shearing force is studied. The results show that the ultimate loads of the reinforced samples are increased distinctly. The main factors such as effective coefficient, friction coefficient are analyzed. Based on the experimental results, a calculated method of shear strength of brick masonry walls reinforced with AFRP is presented.2, Based on the test of four brick walls reinforced with AFRP, the effectiveness of method of using AFRP to strengthen the brick masonry walls is proved. The results show that the ultimate loads and the ultimate horizontal displacements of the reinforced brick masonry walls are increased distinctly. Based on the experimental results and the comparing analysis of the reinforced samples and reinforced brick masonry walls, a calculated method of shear strength of brick masonry walls reinforced with AFRP is presented.
