Recently, the technique of using Fiber Reinforced Polymer(FRP) in civil engineering is a hotspot in the research field of civil engineering all around the world. As a new material used to reinforce structures, Aramid Fiber Reinforced Polymer(AFRP) has excellent mechanic prospect, which satisfied the qualification for using widely in the field of civil engineering. This paper deals with the application of AFRP for shear and seismic strengthening for brick masonry walls and investigates the shear and seismic mechanism of the brick masonry walls.According to the cyclic reverse loading test of two brick masonry walls without reinforement and four pieces of brick masonry walls reinforced with AFRP, the cracking load, the ultimate load, the ductility factor and the rate of crack propagation were compared each other. The result shows that the cracking load and the ultimate load are all increased to different extent, the rate of crack propagation has an obvious betterment and the seismic mechanism is also improved. Based on the research and analysis of the result of theexperiment, this paper defines and studies the coefficient and coefficient and gives out the method of calculation of them. Based on the research, this paper develops a calculation method of shear strength of brick masonry walls reinforced with AFRP, the result of the calculation fits the result of the experiment well, it may refered to and used in design.
