The massive basal joints in engineering rock destroyed the integrity of the rock mass.have certain influence to the stability of the rock mass. The survey and analysis of the basal joints and selecting the more reliable geometry parameter extremely has the significance to the study of the engineering rock stability. Because the limit of the natural or the artificial outcrop,the application research of the basal joints uncertainty statistical model has been paid attention. At present known discontinuities trace length estimation model have certain shortage at application condition and premise supposition.and be confined.This article based on XiaoWan Hydroelectric Station spandrel groove excavating slope survey data, statistic and analyse basal joints using trace length estimation models.And contrasting the result of basal joints trace length statistic based on adit survey and excavating slope survey data,it has been find the reason of difference. Intercepting different windows at the excavating slope, analysing the result of some kinds of trace length estimation models,it has been analysed that the influence which produces to the trace length estimation, from the window size, the basal joints recognition and the distribution of the trace length.And it has been find that the method of Laslett trace length estimation result is reasnonable,but the result is big when the big trace length be concerned with.Aiming at theproblem that method of Laslett trace length estimation is reasnonable but can not accurate estimate when the big trace length be concerned with, method of Laslett trace length estimation has been revised and the trace length estimation formula been put forword.And it has carried on the confirmation to this formula. The computed result is reasonable.The result of this article has the vital significance to the further research of the trace length estimation model.
