Dam abutments stability analysis is very important in the design of arch dam. According to the load characteristic of arch dam, the stability mainly depends upon the rock mass of dam abutment, therefore, the rock mass stability of dam abutment is directly related to dam's normal operation and safety. The slide destroy after loaded is common type of out of stability,another type is failure of rock mass in large areas after loaded,the dam abutement distort excessively,that lead to destroy of dam, therefore, dam abutments stability analysis is the important problem to dam safty in some degree.The stability analysis of arch dam abutment rock mass include numerical method analysis and model experiment analysis. Aimed at deformation stability analysis,this dissertation is started from geological conditions,rock mass structure,quality classification and assessment of abutments rock mass and mechanical parameters of abutment rock mass, then a numerical model is established. FLAC 3D Numerical Simulation method is applied to analyse stress , strain characteristic and deformation failure development of abutment rock mass in normal load and owerload conditioins.Finally,deformation stability and overload characteristic is studied emphatically,then deformation failure mechanism and overload safety coefficient are obtained.The key contents and conclusions are as follow:1. The rock mass structure of dam abutments is researched completely.The research consists of the generation analysis of different discontinuities ,the engineering geological classification , geological characteristic of discontinuities and rockmass structure type. Finally,the model of rockmass structure is established.2. Quality classification and assessment of abutments rock mass with four classification systems is carried out according to study on features of rockmass, which are Engineering geological classification system of dam foundation, national Standard of P.R.C (BQ)-engineering rockmass classification , Geomechanics System (RMR)...
