Nowdays in the building apparatus monitoring system, it's the industrial computer that serves as the host computer of fieldbus control network. This system controls the condition of the distribution apparatus in the building to ensure its sound. In addition, it can also offer information to the superior electric control center to optimize the operation of the entire power system.However, in small-scale single buildings, especially in end users of low-voltage distribution network, the relatively high cost and complicated structure make the application of this kind of system economically unavailable. Such buildings are featured with huge reactive power lose and low power factor. The tremendous use of single-phase load and the randomness of load change lead to the unevenness of three-phase loading. Besides, the large amount of non-linear load results in third harmonic wave occurring in the distribution system. The existence of these unfavorable factors have not only wasted the energy but also influenced the stability and reliability of the distribution system. Yet the rapid development of embedded systems has offered a solution for this contradiction.With the improvement of the embedded system, the performance of 32-bits ARM series is now equivalent to industrial control computers in terms of its actualization of friendly mutual interface, networking, and real-time data processing. They have a variety of advantages such as high performance, low consumption and low cost. Their high performance-price-ratio and improving market share make them ideal substitute for industrial control computers in monitoring system.In the present study, 32-bits high-performance embedded ARM920T was taken as the platform, the distribution monitoring as the application object as the distribution monitoring to achieve such functions as communication, data processing and figure interface as well as the preliminary framework of the host machine in the monitoring system.Firstly, based on the comparison among different embedded operating systems, the author decided on Linux as the embedded operating system. And then the author analyzed the firmware that makes up ARM-Linux, provided the methods to program each part, and analyzed the procedure to start ARM-Linux.
