In recent years, with the increase of electrical energy demand, the reliability of distribution system draws more and more attention.Only by moving up the technology ladder of distribution system can raise the standard of reliability. Feeder terminal unit is the base of the distribution automation system. So, it is meaningful to improve the distribution automatic system performance by use the high-performance FTU.After analyzing the functions and characters of FTU, the papers constructed the FTU by using the double processors (ARM+DSP) as the hardware structure and cutting the embedded system of Linux.The hardware of whole system adopted TMS320C5416 chip produced by TI Corporation and S3c2410 produced by Samsung Corporation as the double processors, and adopted HPI technology to connect them. Utilizing the embedded system of Linux's multitasking capabilities and support multiple communication protocols,the author constructed the software part of the system. Moreover,the paper analyzed the characters of singlephase grounding in ground fault of ungrounded systems, and found out the fault locating method that detecting the phase shift of zero-sequence voltage and zero-sequence current combined with means of communication.The method does not depend on the master of distribution system, well suited fulfill in the FTU system.
