Through establishing the relationship between hillside natural environment and themselves, people get to know hillside, to check their existence and meaning among hillside. That is, the radical purpose of people's existence among hillside is to establish, keep and develop the meaningful relationship between hillside natural environment and human beings. Only when People acquire the true comprehension toward the natural environment can they empathize the nature and create the man-made place of real meaning.I acquainted the place in virtue of the theory of phenomenology architecture, focusing on the phenomenon of things, in order to observe, understand and explain the phenomenon of hillside buildings integrally, and then I grasped meaning and value of the phenomenon. According to the thinking manner of phenomenology, thesis study from the hillside natural place to man-made place, landing types, and then to the architecture place, all these are intended to reveal the broad hillside residential environment for spiritual connotations ultimately.C.Norberg-Szulc said in the "Genius loci " , The place is a space of clear structure; the architecture means the visualization of the spirit of place. Hillside building's major task and contents are to optimize hillside natural environment, to provide real residential place and establish meaningful relation with the nature. We use the characteristics given by architectural environment to form the spirit of place, to realize the improvement of the whole environment gathered by several place factors. Comprehensive humanistic significance and the recognition of human spiritual life reflect people's understanding of hillside at a higher level.Last but not the least, I put forward the architectural design ideas about returning back to place, and prospect the development of hillside building.
