Traditional First Order Reliability Method (FORM) and two numerical simulations——Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) and Response Surface Method (RSM) are compared to expound their theories and characteristics. Based on ANSYS Parametric Design Language (APDL), programs are compiled to analyze reliabilities of a plane structure and a frame structure. The results from two numerical simulations including their characteristics of calculation are compared and analyzed.Through numerical simulation RSM, reliabilities of cast steel joints in Chongqing Jiangbei international new airport trusses are analyzed and evaluated. Analysis contents for cast steel joints (ZG-2c, ZG-2a) with three branches are displayed as follows:(1) Choose random variables: Select important geometric parameters and load parameters of cast steel joint as random input variables, and define maximum equivalent stress of joint as random output variable;(2) Modeling with parameters: Compile analysis files with parameterized languages (APDL) of ANSYS program to implement automatic modeling and analysis;(3) RSM analysis: From samples based on central composite design, the response surface is regressed; subsequently Monte Carlo simulations of 1000000 times in the response surface are applied.(4) PDS post processing: From the data of RSM, statistical analysis and trend post processing are applied.(5) Based on the reliability analysis, performance evaluation of cast steel joints in Chongqing Jiangbei new airport is presented.The search shows that: RSM based on probability theories, not only provides an effective ways and means to solid structures such as cast steel joints, but also has practical use to reliability analysis of large and complicated structures.
