Comparison And Enlightenment Of Chinese Garden And Islamic Garden

Focusing on the analysis of the garden styles, plantscape and stonescape, as well as waterscape and garden architecture, the author has drawn a parallel between the classical garden arts in China and that in the Islamic mainly by historical and parallel comparative methods.It is indicated that, although they have the similar historical origins, the classic gardens in China and those in the Islamic are very different in the ideas, styles and landscapes of the gardens due to the differences in natural conditions, social environments, cultural backgrounds, religious factors and aesthetic ideals. The former has been seeking natural beauty and appears to be the natural landscape garden style in symbolism by the influences of Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism, especially by Zen and the Confucian school of idealist philosophy of the Song and Ming Dynasties. And the latter has been influenced by western culture and thought trends of aesthetic. It creates regular garden style that is different from Chinese natural garden style. The function of Islamic garden and its form of artistic manifestation reflects the requirement for the religious doctrine of Islam in addition every aspect of the function and refract out Islam's characterized aesthetic thought, thus formed the" pure, clean, quiet" garden style.Comparing Chinese garden with Islamic garden, although they have different pursuits, the common one is to make people pleased. Either regular style or natural style, to both the master of Chinese and Islamic garden, it has reflected their life manner, life appeal and esthetic ideal, all is for creating a happy heaven paradise.The traditional garden has been evolved and developed over thousands of years .Its form and the meaning have been already approved by the society. But the modern garden has represented the development direction, which is inevitable product with the time progresses. Between the tradition and the modem age, overemphasis any side is wrong. The final goal of comparing with the Chinese garden and Islamic garden is to pursue two identities and the difference from the historical development and esthetics, thus to make up for one's deficiency by learning from others' and to draw lessons from each other which obtain technique from the tradition in the design and focused to create with the practice. Thus causes the ancient garden art to present newly lives. Therefore, we should draw support to the traditional form and the content to seek the recent meaning or the form of new visual shape, both may cause the content and the historical culture relates to the design, and may unify the present age to be esthetic and the function request, to create both has the spirit of the age and to be able to blend together the ancient and modem outstanding works.
