Resident trip survey can get trip attributes (such as the frequency, purpose, methods, and OD, etc.) , social attributes , personal and family attributes of the population in the study region in a certain period of time. It is the main content of OD survey, and is the most direct means to grasp the traffic demand of urban transportation. It provides the most basic information to research urban traffic problem and is the most direct way for researchers to master the rules and status of urban traffic development. Currently, most resident trip surveys are sampling survey. It will consume a lot of manpower and material to organize a resident trip survey. The whole process contains many links, includes research organization, program design, staff training, and the final implementation of a comprehensive survey, any one step misconduct will affect the quality of the survey. This paper discusses several key technical issues in the process of survey, aim at the improvement of existing theories and methods. In the paper, analysis and research has been carried on in various degrees with traffic zone scale, sample method, sample rate and last data processing problem. On the basis of resident trip distance distribution, the paper put forward a kind of method to determine the traffic zone scale. That fully contact resident trip's character and restrain sub-district scale with proportion of traffic in the same zone. The paper also explored a sampling method and sample rate algorithm through analysis of the sample theory and the actual residents trip. In the final, author studied data processing systematically, established the survey database, and use Visual Basic programming language with ACCESS database established the data-processing system, which can improve the accuracy and efficiency of processing.
