As the road transportation volume has been continuously increasing in our country, more and more pressure loads are putted on bridge. Beside, the aging and damaging of some old bridges, as well as the limitation of original design standard, existing bridge loads become usually insufficient, all contribute to the seriousness of the problem. It is a world-wide problem as to how to evaluate the actual loads and safety factors of existing bridges, how to detect the damages and abnormalities as early as possible, and finally, how to assess the degree of structural damage so as to adopt rational remedy methods. By analyzing the types and causes of arch bridge defects, as well as by combining actual engineering experiences, this paper summarize the methods of concrete strength detection of truss arch bridges, load capacity determined by dynamic and static loading experiment, and the strengthening of existing arch bridges. Through analyzing the load capacity of Zengbu Bridge in Guangzhou, the measure to strengthen the truss arch bridge is suggested. By the way, the results here delivered maybe helpful for the same kind of reinforced concrete arch bridge's refreshing and maintenance.
