| Old city renewal is an indispensable tache in the urban development. On the one hand, with old city renewal launched deeply, shabby appearance of the old city has got changed and the citizens' living conditions have got great improvement too. One the other hand, because of lacking overall understanding on the style and features of the historical ancient city, interaction of tradition and modern, conserving and developing, a lot of historical districts have suffered crushing destruction.The old city historical district is the important component of historic cultural city of Zhangzhou. It has recorded the developing history and course of Zhangzhou and is the important carrier of the traditional culture, which reflects the glamour and characteristic of Zhangzhou city. However, some districts and old buildings of Zhangzhou were destroyed with the emergence and rapid rise of the estate market since the 1980s. Protecting the historic district of Zhangzhou becomes the most important work during the urban renewal in the future.This thesis is based on the thoughts from geography, urban planning, sociology, history, which compose a research for conservation and development of historic district in Zhangzhou urban renewal. First of all, the development process and experiments have been analyzed from both the domestic and the international view. The experiences of district protection in the world have been summarized, aiming at grasping the positive direction for protecting and renovating and the historical district. Secondly, the development of the urban characteristics of Zhangzhou and the problems in old city renewal have been analyzed. Then, the thesis analyzes the historic culture characteristics and status quo of Zhangzhou historic district by investigation, including the analysis of city image, the sampling questionnairies, the GIS technic and the interview analysis. Finally, give same recommendations on the historic district in Zhangzhou Urban Renewal.
