CAE technology has been widely applied in modern vehicle structure design. Finite element analysis method is one of the most popular methods which adopted in this technology, because it can help to shorten development period, reduce costs, enhance competition advantages of the developed products, as well as analyze exist products and optimize design of the products. As the competition of the bus industry is becoming acute, in the precondition of without degrading the vehicle performances, vehicle deadweight is the lighter the better. This article is about optimizing bus structure lightweight design by using the finite element analysis method.BJ6830 is a medium-type tour bus manufactured by Beiqi Foton Motor Co. Ltd, but its design is comparative conservative which result in a relatively heavier whole vehicle mass. Therefore, in this article, we chosen BJ6830 as the study sample to explain vehicle lightweight optimization and materials saving while maintaining the load and anti-distortion performances as much as possible at the same time, especially bus structure lightweight optimization, that is to say frame and body lightweight optimization. In addition, as for whole vehicle, the whole weight will be lightened when the body weight is lightened, thus the dynamic and economic performances of the whole vehicle will be improved also.To implement the study and achieve the aim, we have done the following set-ups:I. Vehicle Structure Model ConstructionConstructing an accurate and reliable structural finite element calculate model is a critical task which would influent the results correction directly. However, the real construction work was very complex, for there were many possibilities existed in structural shape, support boundary and load.
