Industrial heritage renovation is becoming a hot task in contemporary China's urban renewal and development, researching on the industrial heritage reuse, has both theoretical significance and practical value in various aspects, such as resource utilization, economy respond, environmental protection, context preservation etc .Through analyzing the origins of protection ,reconstruction and adaptive reutilization practice in Chinese industrial architecture ,we will find that the forthgoers of this practice are mainly avant-garde artists and people who have studied abroad .They not only experience and accept the concept of the industrial heritage reuse in occident ,but also spread and practice the concept in China .In this situation ,the concept of"loft"was put out and extend . The thesis endeavors to clear up the meaning of the"lofts"in the view of architect, and evaluate the lofts"phenomenon in contemporary China with the assortment and summarization of the Chinese example. The thesis is composed of six chapters, make up of three parts.The first and second chapters clears up the concept of"lofts"and the range of research, and expounds the origin and trends in domestic and foreign aspect.The third, fourth and fifth chapters are the main part of this thesis. Chapter 3 involves two re-developing models of the industrial heritage, one is spontaneous model, the other is intensive model. Both of them have taken indispensable effects on the rebuilding procedure of industrial heritage of China. Based on the space forms and construction traits, chapter 4 sum up and discuss the design method of lofts reuse .From the view that artists are the spirit of loft , chapter 5 analyses and evaluate the value of lofts.The sixth chapter as the summarizing part prospects the loft's development.There are about 60000 words and 100 illustrations in this thesis.
