Due to the significant advantages of the variable-speed constant-frequency (VSCF) generator system, e.g. stable-frequency, low THD (total harmonic distortion factor), and uninfluenced by the varying speed of mover, it is quite fit for the national defense and the civil use with high request as a top-quality power supply. In this thesis, a small capacity of VSCF generator system is developed and introduced in detail, including the design of permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) with concentrated windings and outer rotor topology, the choice and design of the parameters of the"AC-DC-AC"rectifier, and the control of the whole system.Due to the unique feature of the PMSG with concentrated windings and outer rotor adopted in the VSCF generator system, the available analysis methods for the traditional machines are not applicable to the generator directly. Here, A nonlinear varying-network magnetic circuit model for the generator is established in the thesis. The structure of the equivalent magnetic circuit is developed and the permeances are formulated. The nodal MMF equations are developed and solved by Gauss-Seidel method. Based on the analysis, the flux linkage and back EMF of the generator are obtained, and the performance analysis program is programmed. Considered of the design request, the combination of Atmega16L with CPLD is chosen to form a SPWM generator, and TLP250 is used to drive the IGBT. Parameters of the circuit such as the main circuit,the snubber circuit,the filter circuit and sample circuit are calculated and specified. The control strategy of the system is given.Finally, a prototype of the VSCF generator system is designed and built, and experiments are carried out, many test data and waveforms are obtained from the experiments. Based on this, some theoretical analysis is carried out. It shows that the design of VSCF generator system is satisfied with design request, especially, more suitable the occasion with quite heavy inductance load and higher request of waveform. Hence, it will have a very nice market foreground.
