The axial flow fan is a main device used in mine and tunnel ventilation systems, its performance index such as flow rate, pressure and efficiency are very important. Currently, the design of axial-fan in tunnel depends mainly on experimental test and the technical workers experiences, large experimental test of axial fan in tunnel cost much resource of manpower and material, so its design cost is very high. If CFD technology is used in simulating the internal flow of the axial fan, it can guide the design and help us choose the best design scheme and reduce the cost.The model of the axial fan is established in the Gambit software of pretreatment, and calculating in the CFD commercial software—Fluent6.0. We simulate the flow field of axial fan whose diameter is 2.6m in tunnel with standard k -εmodel and SIMPLE method, the solver is segregated and implicit. The dimension of the grids is very important when generated, because the small gaps in the model may affect the foundation of the grids and the computation of the simulation if the grids are very big, and the time computed may be very long if the grids are very small, so the model should be simplified. All these need the designer's experiences from the simulation.In this paper, Numerical simulation is used to calculate the axial fan model. Then change the installed angle of the blades,the radial clearance of axial fan and the shape of the enlarge depressor,compare the internal field with the sample fan, then find the effect on the performance of the installed angle of blades,the radial clearance and the shape of the enlarge depressor.Some researches are made on how to establish and simplify the fan model and how to create grids. I hope it can be useful to the researchers on axial fan.
