Cable dome is a kind of spatial and flexible structures with characteristics of ingenious ideas, reasonable mechanical properties and cost. novel shape. and it’s by far the structure form closest to the tensegrity system patterns which defined by Fuller. Based on structure system of traditional sunflower-type cable dome. this paper presented a new type of cable dome system. that is. sunflower-type cable dome with two loops in each layer. and correlative research on this new structure system was made by using finite element analysis software. Static Properties in the cases of prestress loss and sliding hoop cable, the design of a new cable-bar joint were studied also.First of all. this paper describes the cable dome with two loops in each layer, the new layer by layer construction method and the technical scheme to solve the existing problems. According to the mechanical properties of the structure, a new designed cable-bar joint is presented which suitable for building structure and matching with the cable, easy to construct. low cost. and it can either slide or be fixed.Secondly, structural performance of sunflower-type cable dome with two loops in each layer were studied by taking into account the friction impact of sliding-cable during construction process. The results show that the friction between hoop cable and joint will cause tension redistribution in hoop cable of structure, and static properties of the structure will be obviously affected.Finally, base on the modified original length method, the modified original length method proposed in this paper is aim to solve the problem of simulating cable sliding at joint with friction effect of cable dome by using the old method, and the mechanical analvsis by Ansvs becomes more clearly and efficiently.By using it, this paper compared the static characteristic of structure in two different cases, that the hoop cables can slide or can’t slide. The research results show that the internal force of the levy dome with two loops in each layer is more even, the displacement of the joints becomes larger. The result of this paper provide a new approach for the design of the new joint.
