In order to solve the air pollution caused by heat-engine plant, our government specifies that desulfurating project should be carried out along with the construction of heat-engine plant. The heat-insulating material in the desulfurating tower is made of combustible material. It is easy to cause fire hazard in the course of welding when construction is being carried out. In recent years, many domestic desulfurating towers suffered fire hazards. These desulfurating towers were seriously damaged by fire hazard, but almost no desulfurating tower collapsed during the fire hazard. The destruction caused by fire in different part of the tower was not the same. Because of the lack of research, many desulfurating tower had to be removed and then rebuilt after fire hazard, which has caused great economic loss.This article was written on the basis of actual desulfurating tower. This tower was suddenly suffered with fire hazard after the completion of main structure. The tower was badly damaged that serious deformation occurred in part of the body of tower. The deflection of inner equipments and supporting members was great. The falsework inside the tower was broken down by the fire.The analysis model of this tower was made according to the theory of finite element. And then the analysis of the bearing capacity of this tower was carried out. After that different reinforcement programs were raised on the basis of the analysis and different finite element model was made according to different reinforcement programs. These reinforcement programs were coMPared with each other to choose the most economical program which is easy to be carried out. The theory of reliability was applied to make sure if the reinforced tower could work normally and safely under the actual load.
