Indirect evaporative cooler, which combines water-cooling and air-cooling as well as heat and mass transfer, is a highly effective and energy-saving cooling facility. As a more compact and applicable hear exchanger than Pipe indirect evaporative cooler, Plate indirect evaporative cooler is used more and more widely in industry. Nowadays, though we have achieved lots of useful and helpful outcomes in the course of studies and applications of evaporative cooler, there are still many issues, which need to be solved. The purpose of this thesis is to make systematic research on evaporative coolers by theoretical and experimental methods, to promote the popularization and utilization of the plate indirect evaporative cooler in industry field.According to the theories of heat and mass transfer, the differential equation groups are presented based on the analysis of the heat and mass transfer process in the plate indirect evaporative cooler when the work fluid is condensed. The analytic results and simulation software are obtained upon several proper presumptions, which can be used for the designing and calculating of industrial project. And the analytic expressions of the distributions of the spraying water temperature and the cooling air enthalpy along the height of the evaporative cooler are also acquired. The temperature distributions of working fluid and spraying water and the enthalpy of cooling air are obtained, which can be used to size and optimize the evaporative cooler.When the phase of the work fluid being cooled doesn't change, according to the practical project application, the simplified thermal calculation method for plate IEC is systematically presented based on proper presumptions and the research results of former researchers. And a designing-aiding software is also made out for project calculation.Through model experiment testing, the rationality of using synthesized heat-exchange coefficient based on the wet bulb temperature of air for the thermal calculation of plate IEC is proved.To improve the structure effectiveness of plate IEC, the structure optimization is analyzed.
